"Sunbolt provided us an excellent product that was incredibly easy for our Building & Grounds department to install in only a few hours. They were also wonderful to work with – communicating with us throughout the process and following up to ensure that all of our stakeholders were supremely satisfied."

The State of Illinois has formed the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation | Clean Energy Development to help K-12 Schools receive grants for solar and wind initiatives while also providing educational opportunities on the importance of clean energy. They’ve been working diligently to push a clean energy agenda by providing a series of Grant Programs, Courses and Public Amenities to their community.

Lyons Township High School

One of those Illinois Solar Schools is Lyons Township High School, whose Class of 2020 Officers led the school to purchase one of Sunbolt’s Solar Carousels. We were able to speak with Peter Geddeis, Director of Student Activities, to hear about their incredible work and why they chose our charging table.

The officers discovered Sunbolt during their research into popular solar-powered outdoor seating. One officer, with a passion for green energy development, was impressed with the mission behind Sunbolt. Discovering an aligned enthusiasm for clean energy and Sunbolt’s clear and precise information, the Class of 2020 felt it was an easy choice. “Sunbolt provided us an excellent product that was incredibly easy for our Building & Grounds department to install in only a few hours. The Class of 2020’s officers were visually attracted to the look of the Solar Carousel. It provided the seating style they were looking for whilst offering a variety of charging capabilities.  As high school students increase their use of personal devices, the carousel would have a dual purpose. It would bring students together to eat and chat and charge their devices.

The first group of students to sit at the table and use it were pleasantly surprised by the technology. They were amazed with how it works; how easily accessible the charging ports are and the tasteful elegance of its presentation. A Senior watched the installation process from his classroom window, immediately noticing the solar panels on the canopy and wondering what the unit had in store.

The Solar Carousel is placed in the outdoor courtyard. Anyone with access to the courtyard can use the charging table. Students already gather in that area during warm weather, so it was ideal to choose a place most students consider the heart of the school. It will provide an additional convenience for those who choose to take advantage of this outdoor lounging area. Students will gather there during their lunch periods, as the courtyard is immediately accessible from the student cafeteria. Club leaders will also hold outdoor meetings, special events, etc. around this table. With an unlimited amount of uses, the students have been impressed with both Sunbolt and its variety of Solar Charging Solutions.

It was an honor to work with a high school so passionate about solar energy like Lyons Township and to share in their excitement for our product. Collectively, all the students love the Solar Carousel. We at Sunbolt feel this quote sums it up perfectly! “This thing is really sick! I’m kind of jealous that we won’t be able to use it for much of our senior year, but it will still be a great addition for future students.” -James King, Student Council President.
